ISRO launch Debris particles explained

What is that thing that falls of the rocket when a ISRO rocket launches ?. Every time an ISRO rocket launches big white pieces fall off the rocket .Some people have suggested that it might be ice . Although the ice theory is completely false. Let me explain the following .

Here’s a video in Hindi on the same topic :

Things that fall off during a ISRO rocket launch

Whenever ISRO launches one of its mighty rockets many things seems to be scattering away . Along with the smoke we see things coming out of the rocket .these things are like white pads . what are they ? These things are Noise Isolation pads . Check out the image below .

As you can clearly see the letters PSLV are also coming out . This one clear evidence that ice does not fall of PSLV . In fact for ICE to form we need something really cold fuel . PSLV uses hypergolic fuel which does not need to be stored at very low temperatures . Although there is a twist , ill mention at the end .

SO why does ISRO use NOISE ISOLATION / DAMPING pads ?

Well the answer is simple . A rocket releases so much noise during launch it might end up tearing the rocket and launchpad into pieces . So what do we do to take care ?.The answer is water ! yes water. This is the major technique that all space agencies in the world use . If you have seen a SpaceX launch you can clearly see water pouring in at the flame trench . ISRO does this too but its not visible because of the launchpad structure . Have a look at the image below .

ISRO has traditionally used Noise isolation pads along with this system to play safe. If ISRO is doing something its probably for a reason . Extra protection is not bad to keep stages shielded from noise . These are designed to fall off from the rocket and are light . Hence not much weight penalty .

GSLV LAUNCH Particles

Although incase of a GSLV if you see sheets falling from the black stage .Its probably ICE . Why? GSLV upper stage uses Cryogenic fuel . Cryogenic fuel is basically fuel that is stored at very very low temperatures. So probability of forming ice does exist . Gyaan ki gareebi sabse badi.
